Wellington Becomes First Municipality to Oppose Project Tango
The Village of Wellington unanimously passed a resolution opposing the proposed hyperscale data center, citing environmental and community concerns.
In a significant show of support for the Arden community, the Village of Wellington has become the first municipality in Palm Beach County to formally oppose Project Tango.
Unanimous Resolution
The Wellington Village Council voted unanimously to pass a resolution opposing the proposed 3.69 million square foot hyperscale data center. Council members cited concerns about water usage, noise pollution, and the project's proximity to residential neighborhoods and schools.
"This is not the kind of development that belongs next to thousands of homes and an elementary school," said one council member during the meeting.
What This Means
Wellington's opposition sends a strong message to the Palm Beach County Commission, which will ultimately decide the fate of the project at the April 23, 2026 hearing. While Wellington doesn't have direct authority over the unincorporated land where the data center is proposed, their formal opposition adds political weight to the community's case.
Growing Momentum
Wellington joins a growing list of voices opposing the project:
- Over 8,000 petition signatures collected
- 50+ residents spoke against the project at the December 2025 hearing
- The Commission voted 7-0 to postpone in December, signaling serious concerns
- Multiple state legislators have introduced bills addressing data center siting
